 PROGRAM

“Capturing the Real Voice Through Oral History”

Speaker: Joseph Cates

Joseph Cates is the Curator of Education and Public Programs at the Sullivan Museum and History Center at Norwich University. He received his B.A. in History from Auburn University at Montgomery and his M.A. in American Military History from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

Initially, Cates came to the Sullivan Museum in 2015 as the Oral History Coordinator. In this capacity, he completed over 40 oral histories of members of the Norwich University community. The Norwich Voices Oral History Project currently contains over 100 oral histories of alums, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. When the grant for Norwich Voices ended in 2018, he transitioned to be the Curator of Education and Public Programs. He continues to conduct oral histories as part of his current position.
